2017 offseason

Mets Daily Offseason Update 11/17/17

The shareholders of the Triple-A club Syracuse Chiefs have agreed to sell the team to the New York Mets. The sale will cost the Mets $18 million. The Chiefs will become the Mets Triple-A affiliate in 2019.

The Mets have made their first signing this offseason by signing reliever Matt Purke to a minor-league deal. The contract also comes with a Spring Training invite. Purke pitched for 3.24 ERA and 3.20 FIP in 2016 with the White Sox in his only season in the major leagues.

Third baseman T.J. Rivera may not return until the middle of next year after undergoing  Tommy John surgery in September, according to CBS Sports. Rivera hit for a slash line of .290/.330/.430 in 231 plate appearances in 2017.
