The Mets signed outfielder Zach Borenstein to a minor-league contract which included a spring training invite. Borenstein has yet to spend time in the major leagues, with the highest level he’s played at has been at the Triple-A level. Borenstein represented Team Israel in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
An agreement between the Nippon-Pro Baseball league, MLB, and the player’s association has been reached that will bring Japanese star Shohei Ohtani to the major leagues in 2018, according to Joel Sherman. The favorite for winning the Ohtani sweepstakes looks like the Yankees, as they hold $3.5 million in international free agency pool money, the second-most in the major leagues, just $35,000 short of the Texas Rangers’ amount.
