2018 spring training

Mets Spring Training Pre-Game Report – 2/27/18

The Mets take on the Astros again at 1:10pm today after losing to a split squad of the Astros Monday, 8-7. Noah Syndergaard impressed in his first outing of the year, throwing two perfect innings and two strikeouts while showcasing some intense velocity. 11 of the 22 pitches Syndergaard threw yesterday clocked over 100 mph, and his secondary pitches were almost as blisteringly fast as his fastball.

In Mets injury news, Yoenis Cespedes is out with a sore shoulder and Jacob deGrom is out with lower back soreness, as both players are day-to-day. This is likely the by-product of the players re-entering a rigorous training schedule after a long offseason, so these injuries shouldn’t be cause for concern.

Steven Matz will start against Brad Peacock today, and the Mets’ starting lineup will feature more everyday starters than prospects, as opposed to yesterday, with the lineup shown below:

1. Asdrunal Cabrera – 2B

2. Amed Rosario – SS

3. Jay Bruce – DH

4. Todd Frazier – 3B

5. Adrian Gonzalez – 1B

6. Travis d’Arnaud – C

7. Zach Borenstein – RF

8. Kevin Kaczmarski – LF

9. Patrick Biondi – CF
