Mets Spring Training Pre-Game Report – 3/2/18

The Mets will play two split squad games today, the first against the Nationals at 1:10pm, and another against the Astros at 6:05pm. The Mets come off of a 3-2 defeat to the Marlins, where Jason Vargas pitched his first innings for the Mets for the first time in nearly eleven years. Vargas had a decent outing, throwing a strikeout in two innings while allowing three hits, including a home run in the second inning.

Rafael Montero will get the start in the first game against Nationals ace Max Scherzer, while Robert Gsellman will start against Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole, who was traded from the Pirates for a prospect package including pitcher Joe Musgrove and infielder Colin Moran back in January.

The starting lineup for the Mets-Nationals game is shown below, while the Mets-Astros starting lineups will be announced in the coming hours:
