Mets Spring Training Pre-Game Report – 3/7/18

As New York City will be pummeled by snow today, both New York teams will square off in a much warmer and sunnier Port St. Lucie, Florida today as the Mets take on the Yankees in Grapefruit League action. The Mets come off of a 9-5 victory over the Astros which culminated in a Philip Evans walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jason Vargas had a somewhat shaky outing, allowing two runs, four hits, and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.

Zack Wheeler will start against RHP Domingo German, a 25-year old prospect who made his MLB debut in 2017. German had a solid season in the limited amount of appearances he made for the Bronx Bombers, pitching for an ERA of 3.14, an FIP of 3.44, and an xFIP of 3.52.
