Mets Spring Training Pre-Game Report – 3/14/18

The Mets square off against the Miami Marlins today at 1:05pm. The Mets lost both of their split squad games yesterday, with a 6-1 loss to the Nationals and a 7-4 defeat to the Astros. Noah Syndergaard had another strong outing to add to his very promising pre-season, garnering five strikeouts while allowing four hits and an earned run in 4 2/3 innings of work against the Astros, while Zack Wheeler had a very shaky start against the Nationals, allowing five earned runs and seven hits in three innings pitched.

In injury news, Yoenis Cespedes has taken a cortisone shot for his sore right wrist, his injury prognosis continues to be day-to-day.

Steven Matz will start against RHP Dan Straily. Matz hopes to build on a start where he pitched four scoreless innings and improve his case in a tightly-contested battle for the fifth starting spot in the rotation.
