2018 spring training

Mets Spring Training Pre-Game Report – 3/23/18

The Mets face the Cardinals today at 1:10pm. The Mets beat the Nationals last night, 12-5. The game featured a big fourth inning for the Mets, where they scored nine runs after falling behind 5-0 to begin the game. Yoenis Cespedes went three for four and hit two home runs in yesterday’s game.

Michael Conforto will make his spring training debut today, hitting leadoff as a designated hitter. Conforto has been nursing a dislocated shoulder which was initially believed to keep him off the field until May 1st, however he has made great strides this spring and showed that his shoulder has improved faster than expected.

RHP Drew Gagnon will start against RHP Dakota Hudson. Gagnon was signed to a minor-league contract back in December. Gagnon has never pitched at the major league level since making his minor league debut in 2011. In 2017, the 27-year old threw for an ERA of 6.25 and an FIP of 4.20 in ten starts for the Salt Lake City Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

Today’s starting lineup for the Mets is shown below:

1. Michael Conforto – DH

2. Jay Bruce – RF

3. Wilmer Flores – 1B

4. Jose Reyes – 2B

5. Philip Evans – 3B
