2018 Season

Mets Pre-Game Report – 4/3/18

After their series opener was postponed due to a snowstorm that hit the Northeast Monday morning, the Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time this season, playing tonight at 7:10pm.

The Mets face a Phillies team undergoing a turbulent beginning to their 2018 season, losing two of three against the Braves, including being on the wrong end of a 15-2 blowout on Saturday. New manager Gabe Kapler has been criticized for his excessive bullpen usage, making 18 pitching substitutions in the first three games of the season.

The Mets took two of three games in their Opening Series against the Cardinals, where their offense was hot in their first two games, scoring 15 runs and notching 23 hits. Their offense cooled down Sunday, scoring only one run and taking their first loss in the series finale.

Reliever Anthony Swarzak was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, with a strained left oblique. Swarzak allowed one run and struck out three in 2.1 innings in relief so far in this young season. Hansel Robles was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the vacancy left by Swarzak.

Matt Harvey will make his first start this season tonight. Harvey missed a good chunk of the 2017 season due to a stress fracture in his scapula that required surgery. While Harvey was healthy in 2017, he pitched with a 5-7 record, 6.70 ERA, and 6.37 FIP. Harvey will start against Ben Lively, a 26-year old right hander who had a 4-7 record and 4.26 ERA in 15 starts in 2017.
